Is Africa the New Battle Ground for Terrorism and Jihad?

UKTA2

This paper asks whether Al-Qaida is seeking to increase its operations and affiliations in and with Africa.

*Following the alliance with Al-Qa’ida-core, regional
affiliates such as Al-Qa’ida in the Maghreb and Al-Shabaab
have undergone similar patterns of strategic, tactical and
propagandistic evolution.
*Nigeria’s Boko Haram is still focused on a local campaign, but
recent operational refinement and ability to stage deadly
‘spectaculars’ suggests disturbing connections with other
regional terror groups.

As the central leadership of Al-Qa’ida is weakened and
challenged, the terrorist movement is looking to partnerships
in Saharan and Sub-Saharan Africa to re-group and re-energise
itself
¾¾ Despite greater co-operation, there seems to be an unresolved
tension between transnational aims of Al-Qa’ida-core and the
local grievances of African partners

¾¾ Links between Al-Qa’ida-core and some jihadist groups in
Africa have been established over the last decade which vary in
strategic and operational significance
¾¾ A range of new challenges are possible as jihadism evolves
and disperses into territories of ungoverned space across
large stretches of the African continent. Among these are the
potential for radicalisation and mobilisation of a new subset of
British youth in the UK

Once the United States decided to establish a military presence in every single African country, under the umbrella of the ill-conceived outfit called Africom, the possibility of resistance movements by any name became rather imperative. This will only get worse with time. The US can be rightly assumed to be behind this unfortunate turn of events on the African continent. The US, seeking to curtail China’s foray into Africa, hurriedly set up an ill-conceived and illegal military outfit ,without as much as consult the Africans, until it announced the standing up of Africom. This is stupid move diplomatically and shows the level of American contempt for Africans. Conisder the fact that China did the right thing to invite WILLING African leaders to Beijin for mutual talks on how to engage each other. This apparent arrogance of the West when Africa is concerned is the issue at the heart of the uptick in violent resistance.Africa will never be the same from now on.Just brace yourselves for the worst kind of violence never before seen on the continent with the Americans criss-crossing the entire continent with their drones in search of enemies.Africa has been variously described as a vast “ungoverned” territory which means marked virgin land for American takeover. Remember also America’s role in sustaining apartheid in South Africa because as Mr. Reagan put it, “Besides the Soviet Union, South Africa is the only country with a mineral vital to the US military”.
