“Yar’Adua Returned to Nigeria Because of George Bush”

I read a very interesting article on the Royal African Society’s website. It claimed President Yar’Adua’s return to Nigeria was motivated by the intervention of……George W Bush – former U.S. President!

The story is that George Bush was in Nigeria while the six-man delegation of senators left for Saudi Arabia to try to discover Yar’Adua’s state of health. To make sure the Senators actually got to see Yar’Adua, Bush called President Obama and, with his backing, also called King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. Bush then asked the King to ensure that the senators actually set eyes on Yar’Adua.

When Turai Yar’Adua and Yar’Adua’s followers found out about this, they feared that the truth abot Yar’Adua’s poor state of health would become known and he would be forced out of office. So they quickly rushed him back to Nigeria to prevent the Senators from seeing him.
